I didn't really want to see a play about Green Day,
but I'm glad I did. The dancing and singing was
amazing. Also the lights/effects were phenomenal.
Although, like the previous reviewer said it is not
G rated,I highly recommend it.

AMAZING
Absolutely amazing show from start to finish. Not suggested for kids though. Or anyone that has a very conservative mind because the the message they are sending out will most likely not be liked (it's Green Day, viewers should listen to the soundtrack first). Such an emotional show. All of the elements--even the cussing--work for the show and are needed. And ladies you will enjoy the talented actors for sure. Be prepared to fan yourself. The theatre is beautiful. Agree if you are too tall you may not be comfortable. But our seats were perfect. Easily got to the theatre on BART. Best show I have seen and wish I had time to see it again.

GREAT SHOW!
Saw the show in New York two weeks after it opened. It was a very moving experience for me even though I've been a Broadway theater-goer for years. I am sorry I didn't buy a second ticket for the weekend that I was there. I am looking forward to seeing this show again when it comes to Pittsburgh. I recommend this show to anyone. Was the best theater experience I have ever had.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!
I have seen many Broadway Shows.....this is by far my favorite!! I was super excited to see it was coming to Philly! The first time I saw the show, the tickets were a gift, and I had to drag my hubby to NYC.....this time he is buying the tickets and can't wait to see it again! YES!

AUDIENCE
The show is awesome. I saw the cast at the UK. I wish you would show the current cast photos.

A ROCK OPERA
This was an amazing show. It is a true Rock Opera. It is
helpful to know that the Jesus of Suberbia ( Johnnie) and St
Jimmie are one in the same person ( sort of a Fight Club ,
Edward Norton/ Brad Pitt thing).
The songs are powerful and the dancing is awe inspiring. This
is a truly modern, hip, musical ... Rock Opera... Like any
Opera, open to interpretation in many areas. Can't wait for the
proposed movie.
Even if you do not know Green Days music ( which is
fabulous... BillieJoe Armstrong is a poet) You Will Be Moved
...

AWESOME!
First,to all the people who complained about profanity, similated drug use,sex,etc...IT WAS BASED ON A PUNK ROCK RECORD!!! I saw the show on Broadway and am very excited that it is coming to Houston. My mother doesn't like loud music,so no,I wouldn't bring her,nor would I bring a child who is unfamiliar with Green Day. If you are letting your children listen to the band, then they are already familiar with the contents of the play. If the content shocked you, then maybe a little more research on your part would have done some good.

21ST CENTURY MASTERPIECE
American Idiot is phenomenal. It will have you laughing and crying all night. It leaves the audience emotionally and physical exhausted. As Bilie Joe Armstrong said in Broadway Idiot, it is a cold reality of what happened in America after 9/11. The album is true, the story is captivating and relatable to anyone. The set takes you to so many different places and after seeing it four times, going on six, I am still finding new things. It draws you in & makes you think about your place from the first line. It's always fresh. It's a story of love, rage, hope, being lost, adventure, sadness, addiction, political awareness, patriotism, joy, and so much more. The live band makes it real, and the actors are the best of the best. The singing is spot on and will bring you to your knees. Anyone can find a character to connect with. You are missing the experience of a lifetime until you see American Idiot. Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer have created something purely awesome.

WOW, THIS SHOW JUST BLEW ME AWAY!!!
So, I am not a fan of Green Day, which may have helped me fall in love with this show in an instant! The high energy performances left me breathless and
wanting more. The amazingly talented performers channeled Angst, Zeitgeist, and--well, Green Day-- perfectly. I wish I could see the show again, bummer,
though it does not play in my neck of the woods anymore (even though I did contemplate driving to Atlanta for a few seconds). I really really want to have a
DVD of this show. I would watch it over and over again. GO SEE THIS SHOW!!! This is my favorite musical to date--and I have seen quite a few musicals. Oh, and I
would watch Green Day live because of this show, as well. GO SEE THIS SHOW!!!

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Spectacular musical, not suggested for kids though. Maybe only mature teenagers.

A PROPER ROCK MUSICAL
Disclaimer: My wife and I are mid-60's old and generally republican types. We've seen pretty much everything.
We both loved it.
We went there expecting a rock musical done by a punk-rock band, and that's what we got.
I have seen some negative reviews, and I cannot believe there are people who go to a show not having any idea what to expect from a punk-rock
musical. Did they not even see the title of the show?
The only thing I would ding it for is that the balance between the instruments and voices leaned too much to the instruments so if you weren't
familiar with the lyrics, you had no idea what they were singing much of the time. I highly recommend reading the lyrics before going if you don't
already know them. At least read the wiki article.
I would NOT take children: There's much drug use and some simulated sex, but mainly because they won't have the maturity to understand what's
happening to the characters in a meaningful way.

GREAT FIRST MUSICAL
Took my 3 teenagers who were skeptical at hearing "fake" Green
Day, but everyone loved it. Good intro to theater experience.
Choreography was contemporary and exciting. Not a G rated show,
but how could it be? Opera House was spectacular, but 1 of our
seats was broken so bad, we were re-seated, and in better seats, so
we were happy. Ate at RUB BBQ... quick and delicious.

GREAT SHOW IF YOU ARE SHORT
We really loved the music, the set and the cast. The
musicians were very talented as well. The Orpheum
seating is very uncomfortable if you are over 5'7".
I'm 6'4" and the seats are so cramped that your
knees are reduced to tears in the first 15 minutes.
If you do not have a isle seat, be prepared to be in
agony for over 2 hours since there is no
intermission.

WAS THAT REALLY NECESSARY?
The cast for this musical were all very talented. However, the swearing, attitudes, drug use, and sex seemed tasteless to me. I felt bad for the 85 year old woman sitting next to me. I understand those are real things going on in the world but I personally don't think they are worthy of a musical. It isn't something I would want my kids to watch either at any age. To me this was a sad case of what is considered hot in the media these days. Yikes!
Art from San Francisco
DON'T BOTHER
I wouldn't waste your money on this play. The cast
is talented but they can't make up for what is
truly a poor show. The swearing throughout the
play adds nothing. The simulated sex adds nothing.
The simulated IV drug use adds nothing. All the tv
screens add nothing. Even the live video of a guy
on the stage adds nothing.
I'd suggest buying what of the music you may like
on iTunes and otherwise reallocate your
entertainment dollars to something else like a
good rock concert or Les Mis in a couple months.

WEAK
Ironic that this musical's encore (Good Riddance - Time of your life) is one of the best numbers. This show was pretty weak! What was likeable? The on-stage band was awesome! The set design was good. Supporting actress Heather's voice was a breath of fresh air! But...the dialogue was pathetic. The character development was limited. Will (one of the leads) spends much of the musical on a couch in the shadows. The profanity was overdone. The pelvis thrusting, scrotal lifting, and dry humping got ridiculous. The hybrid hip-hop/punk choreography was, after a while, redundant and boring. Sometimes, such as during the acoustic numbers, the choreography was absent. A couple scenes were very well directed: the wounded warrior-on-a-trapeze dream sequence was tremendous. The his-and-hers heroin dance on the floor was very well done. But mostly I was disinterested. Halfway through I wanted to belt out, "Wake me up, when this musical (september) ends..."

POOR
If you don't like Green Day then don't go and see this musical. It was absolute rubbish from start to finish. The storyline is barely discernable and the choreography is grade A rubbish, amateurish
production I thought. It's a desperate attempt to make a story out of an album and it falls badly short. This is a money spinner, no more. Green Day are laughing all the way to the bank with our money and
that concept is more reflective of post 9/11 america than any this pathetic musical presents.
